A common denominator among our staff is the interest and ability to work with individuals, specifically persons with a variety of disabilities, diverse economic and social backgrounds. Our work
is conducted in the community (i.e. rather than in a facility) and requires
our staff to effectively negotiate with government agencies, social service
programs, business, and persons with disabilities. This represents a multi-faceted
customer base for whom we strive to achieve the highest levels of satisfaction. Persons with disabilities
have the highest rate of unemployment in the nation. The nature of this
phenomena is too complicated to explain here, but suffice it to say that
common themes include: social attitudes, public policies, and a prevalent
assumption that persons with disabilities are expected to be dependent
and incapable of work. Each person we serve has unique strengths and goals,
as well as barriers to overcome. It is incumbent upon our staff to work
through problems to get to the bottom line: assisting a person to get
a desired job and keep it. Ordinarily, our staff
do not encounter much overtime, however most positions require a high
degree of flexibility in work schedules. Staff routinely work evenings
and weekends, going when and where a particular case may take them. We
cultivate a strong team environment and expect the best from each other.
Likewise on a day to day basis, our staff work independently with a high
degree of trust. Thank you for considering career opportunities with AHEDD!
